162 W. Magnolia Cir.
Located in La Vernia, Texas, the 162 W. Magnolia Circle Residence interprets the modern farmhouse through a more refined architectural lens—balancing familiar rural forms with cleaner proportions, restrained detailing, and carefully composed material transitions.
A contrasting combination of black vertical board-and-batten siding and lighter horizontal lap siding was used to break down the overall massing and reinforce shifts in architectural form throughout the residence. The darker vertical elements help anchor key volumes visually, while the lighter horizontal siding introduces scale variation and a softer transition between primary and secondary portions of the home. Together, the change in orientation, texture, and tone creates a more layered and intentional exterior composition without relying on excessive ornamentation.
Roof lines were intentionally simplified to strengthen the overall massing composition and improve long-term constructability, drainage performance, and visual clarity.
Large openings and covered outdoor spaces were organized to bring natural light deep into the interior while maintaining shaded transitions appropriate for the South Texas climate. The architecture relies heavily on scale, proportion, and alignment rather than ornamental features to establish character throughout the residence.
Particular attention was given to how the structure, enclosure, and interior spaces were resolved together during construction. Window placement, framing layout, mechanical coordination, and exterior detailing were developed concurrently to reduce unnecessary field adjustments and maintain consistency throughout execution.
The project emphasizes:
-
architect-driven proportion and composition
-
simplified roof and drainage geometry
-
disciplined material transitions
-
coordinated enclosure detailing
-
practical long-term durability
-
integrated indoor and outdoor living relationships
The residence reflects a contemporary interpretation of farmhouse architecture that prioritizes clarity, restraint, and well-executed construction over stylistic excess or trend-driven detailing.
