Brimhall Road Residence
Description:
This single story home was designed to fit gently on the site in close proximity to a grove of trees. It is evocative of a Texas farmhouse that grew in size and use over time. The rusticated stone coupled with cementitious board and batten provide an earthy contextualism complimentary to its natural surroundings. The blending of composition shingle and standing seam metal roofs further exemplify this organic growth. Vibrant interior colors, earth tone exteriors, contemporary detailing and a compass rose etched in the concrete personify a rugged Texas regional architecture. The need for two slabs, one for the home and one for the porte-cochere, created the opportunity to span the void between the two with a wooden bridge with cantilevered roof from the porte-cochere over the residence to mitigate differential settlement yet keep the homeowners protected during inclement weather.
